South Africa's fast bowler Anrich Nortje has dismissed concerns regarding the playing surfaces in the ongoing T20 World Cup, asserting that low-scoring games require considerable skill. Nortje played a pivotal role in South Africa's victory over Sri Lanka in their tournament opener, a match that saw both teams score a combined total of just 157 runs in 35.3 overs.

Sri Lanka was bowled out for a mere 77 runs, and South Africa chased it down in 16.2 overs, losing two wickets in the process. "I thought the game was great," Nortje stated. "The entertainment was there, the people were there. It was a brilliant spectacle with cheering and noise. It was a great day for cricket."

Nortje emphasized that a match doesn't need numerous sixes to be entertaining. "There's still a lot of strategy and skill involved, whether it's hitting sixes or good bowling. It was a close game; another wicket or two and we could have been in trouble."

Previous matches in the tournament also saw low scores, but Nortje highlighted that bowlers need support too. "I don't think there's anything wrong with the wickets. It's nice for bowlers to get some assistance. The wickets have a bit more for bowlers compared to what players have been used to."

He added, "We might see different conditions in the upcoming games. Our focus is to adapt quickly and adjust our strategy based on the pitch."

Reflecting on his disappointing IPL season, where he conceded runs at an economy rate over 13 in six games, Nortje revealed his approach to improvement. "It's about following processes and working on areas for improvement. Keeping close to those who support and know you is crucial."

Nortje continued, "Despite not being at my best today, I managed to get results and wickets. It's about the process and continuous improvement. Tough times make you better faster, as you identify where things went wrong. Training and preparation in the last month have been really good, thanks to the support from those around me."

Nortje's resilience and positive outlook highlight the importance of adaptability and perseverance in the face of challenging conditions, setting a strong tone for South Africa's campaign in the T20 World Cup.
